If you need to know which of your ports are open or closed, you could try to test them one by one or you could opt for the easy way with Free Port Scanner. As the name suggests, this simple utility can scan the ports of a given host, and it lets you know what they are used to and if they're open or not. It takes only a few seconds to scan your ports and get the results you need, which sounds considerably better than other time-consuming methods.

The software is offered completely free of charge, with no hidden fees or restrictions. It comes in a small package, and it can be installed in no time, on any modern Windows platform. Furthermore, it doesn't rely on any third-party tools, and you don't have to sacrifice a noticeable amount of memory or processing power.

Free Port Scanner comes with a fairly simple user interface, on which you can do everything, from preparing the scanning process to receiving the results. You can target a specific host on your network by typing in its IP address, after which you only need to click a button to start scanning its ports.

By default, the software will scan a set of commonly used ports, but you can add custom ports to the list as well if you need to. Scanned ports show up in a list, as the software scans them. Besides port numbers and the IP of their corresponding hosts, the software also shows their open/closed status, as well as short descriptions so that you know what they are used for. Once you start the scanning process, there is nothing else you need to do. The software is designed to be as simple as possible and to deliver results in no time.

Verifying the state of your ports doesn't take more than a few seconds thanks to Free Port Scanner's straightforward functionality.

Pros

You can scan your ports to see which ones are open or closed. You can start the process with a single click. The application lets you target specific hosts and ports.

Cons

There are no obvious issues to point out.
